The Journey Is Rough, But The Destination Is Worth It
In life, everything that is worthwhile is hard at first; or comes with some form of suffering. Carrying The Cross is hard, but The Resurrection is worth it.
Off-roading in the Sierra Nevadas. Dramamine and The Name of Jesus are my best friends. Traveling is hard, but the destination is always worth it. You see, in life, everything that is worthwhile is hard at first; or comes with some form of suffering. Carrying The Cross is hard, but The Resurrection is worth it.
This notion of the end goal being “worth it” can be applied as well to many things in life. It’s hard to give birth, but holding your sweet baby in your arms makes it worth it. It’s hard to be disciplined in exercise, but feeling good is worth it. It’s hard maintaining a solid prayer life, but having a strong relationship with God is worth it. It was hard off-roading in the mountains, but the end view was worth it. Everything worthwhile is hard at one point. The journey’s rough, but the destination is always worth it.
We live in an anti-suffering society, where people advocate for abortion and euthanasia so “one doesn’t have to suffer in life.” This makes entirely no sense because suffering in this life is unavoidable, the value of life triumphs over every circumstance, and the journey of life is rough but the good moments always outweigh the bad. Life can be hard, but my God, the beautiful moments make it all worth it. The sunrise, the laughter of a baby, the joy of falling in love, listening to a good song for the first time, traveling the world, the sweetness of a Sunday. All the beautiful and wonderful things this life on earth has to offer, far outweigh the unavoidable suffering that we all endure while living in the weeping and mourning valley of tears. Suffering is unavoidable as long as we live in a sinful world plagued with death. Modern society is after a sort of utopia on earth; yet tries to eliminate God from the equation, however God is the only one who can give the human heart what it truly craves; eternal bliss with no pain.
We all know the saying “It’s better to have loved and lost than to have not loved at all.” True love cannot be lost; because as believers, our Catholic faith tells us that love lives on eternally. May we always remember that when the journey of life gets rough, to keep our eyes on the final destination of Heaven; where all our pain and suffering will be alleviated, and where the light glows endlessly without any darkness. In the light of The Resurrection, the final destination makes everything worth it.
