The Necessity of Enjoyment
Jesus is offering you New Wine, and some of you are telling Him that you don’t drink.
If you were at the wedding of Cana, where Jesus performed His first public miracle of turning water into wine, would you drink The New Wine offered to you, or keep your glass of water?
Jesus is offering you New Wine, and some of you are telling Him that you don’t drink. Follow me with where I’m going with this…
I’ve been thinking a lot about the joy of Cana. There’s a lot to meditate on here. For starters, I’ll say the sheer fact that the first miracle Jesus performs is turning water into wine gives us a great glimpse into the heart of God. It tells us that He wants us to enjoy. I’ve noticed a big problem amongst some of the faithful…rigidity, scrupulosity, and uptightness. The Lord is not a drill sergeant. The Lord is a Tender and Passionate Lover who lays down His life for His Bride.
I’ll tell you something The Lord told me in my personal prayer, He said to me : “Show Me who you are when you let your hair down.” Let me preface this by saying that He was speaking figuratively to convey the message He desired to convey to me, which was the juxtaposition between “hair uptight” and “hair down” meaning restricted femininity vs femininity flowing freely, and the feminine nature of a woman’s hair being the symbol used to convey this message. This sentiment The Lord told me, reminds of Mary Magdalene literally wiping The Feet of Our Lord with her hair. (Luke 7:38) Thus she had truly “showed The Lord who she was, when she let her hair down.” A woman, with deep intense love; this is what The Lord was asking from me.
“And turning to the woman, He said unto Simon:"Dost thou see this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest Me no water for My feet; but she with tears hath washed My feet, and with her hairs hath wiped them. Thou gavest Me no kiss; but she, since she came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint; but she with ointment hath anointed my feet. Wherefore I say to thee: Many sins are forgiven her, because she hath loved much. But to whom less is forgiven, he loveth less. And He said to her: Thy sins are forgiven thee.” - Luke 7:44-48
Let me clarify that women are to veil at Mass, and while in prayer. (1 Corinthians 11:5-6) As a woman who veils myself, and is an avid proclaimer of the beauty and necessity of veiling, I understand that The Lord asking me to “let my hair down” means to unveil myself before Him without restraint, and allow my femininity to flow freely and blossom in totality. Hence the common saying, “Let your hair down, let loose.” Jesus often speaks in parables, gives analogies, and uses metaphorical language, which we behold many times throughout Scripture.
You see, intense love and devotion naturally cancel out sin and imperfections. I receive many messages from people asking me a plethora of questions and I’ve noticed scruples plaguing many. Constant second-guessing, plummeting confidence, fear of failure, inability to cross the threshold over to familiar love and devotion.
I believe this is one prominent reason why Jesus asked me to write a book which is a freshly proposed spirituality to appeal to the feminine heart. (Stay tuned for that!)
If The Lord asked you to let your hair down, are you going to be like Mary Magdalene and wipe His feet with it? Or say “Oh no, I can’t do that my hair must stay pinned uptight.” Similarly if Jesus was standing before you offering you to drink from the chalice containing The New Wine, are you going to reach out and take it or say “Oh no, I don’t drink.”
The point I’m getting at is I see many people stuck in spiritual stagnation, uptightness, and also inability to fully enjoy life because they dwell in a state of rigidity instead of intense love. As a woman, this uptightness is contrary to natural feminine nature which is receptive, and free flowing. God created beaches for you to walk on, sunsets for you to gaze at, grass for you to do cartwheels on, rain for you to dance in, sunshine for you to bask in, and He has New Wine, that He offers to you as your drink.
I don’t know about you, but if I was at the Wedding of Cana, I’m not only drinking The New Wine, but I’m drinking it with He who performed the miracle.
Don’t be so high-strung that you miss out on the opportunity to sit down and have wine with God. Take a seat, and get to know The God who created laugher and joy, beauty and romance. Because after all, isn’t that what Heaven is? Isn’t Heaven The Wedding Feast of The Lamb? An eternal celebration? Remember that The Drink of The Wedding Feast is The New Wine.
Cheers to dwelling in the enjoyment of Heaven. Drink deeply, The New Wine offered to you. This is the one drink, that you don’t want to turn down.
