True Catholicism Is The Crème de la crème
“The Catholic Church is like a thick steak, a glass of red wine, and a good cigar.” - G.K Chesterton
“The Catholic Church is like a thick steak, a glass of red wine, and a good cigar.” - G.K Chesterton
Now, I’ve never smoked anything in my life, but I do enjoy a good elegant cocktail from time to time. - You get the sentiment of the quote. This quote from G.K Chesterton conveys the message that true Catholicism is the Crème de la crème.
Why is it so hard to fast? Because we crave a good meal. The human person craves the crème de la crème. We want the best. The nice wine, the nice meal. Some dessert to top things off. You plan for the best food to be served to the guests at your wedding, and you go through taste testing. You do this, because the intricate details of beautifying and making things as best as they can be, conveys the depth of your understanding of what’s taking place, and just how important it is to you. If a man wants to impress a woman he takes her to a nice restaurant. There is an effort for beauty and “the best” when one cares about someone.
This is why proper worship of God, and why a reverent liturgy is so important. God is the very best. He is the Ultimate Crème de la crème, He is The King of Kings! Therefore The Church, the liturgy should be nothing short of absolutely beautiful, and fit for He who is The King, He who is the very best. It’s also why proper attire is important for Mass. You would dress nicely to meet a King wouldn’t you? Something happens at The Mass that is far more intimate than simply meeting a King, we receive, we consume The King of Kings. God deserves our very best.

Why would you want a white-walled service when you can have the opulent beauty of a traditional Catholic Mass? Why settle for less when you can have the very best? Is Heaven barren, or filled with grandiose beauty? Proper liturgy is truly Heaven on earth. We live in a society that craves the beauty that it lacks. This is why beautiful dress, a beautiful liturgy, and a beautiful life are so important. The theology of beauty is what will appeal to the culture, and win over the culture.
