We Thrive Together: Femininity Inspires Masculinity, Masculinity Inspires Femininity
The relationship between man and woman when properly lived out is harmonious and flows. Like two pieces of a puzzle fitting together.
Dear God, may the man you have for me be a man whose masculinity allows me to thrive and flourish in my femininity, Amen.
Here’s the thing: When a man leads a woman correctly she thrives under his leadership and can blossom in her sweet femininity. Femininity inspires masculinity and masculinity inspires femininity. “The more womanly we are, the more manly men will be, and the more God will be glorified.” - Elizabeth Elliot
“Thrive” is a word that’s been swirling and stirring around in my soul for a while. What does it mean to “thrive?” To thrive means to “prosper, to flourish.” The flourishing and blossoming of a woman… I often talk about how just as a flower flourishes in the light of the sun, a woman flourishes in the light of The Son of God. Just as you need the light of Christ to flourish as a woman, the man who is supposed to be an earthly reflection of Christ is to provide the safety, security, and love that allows a woman to flourish in her femininity. A man with authentic masculinity allows a woman to thrive under his leadership; and henceforth when a woman thrives in her femininity, a man thrives in his masculinity. The relationship between man and woman when properly lived out is harmonious and flows. Like two pieces of a puzzle fitting together. A woman brings softness, sweetness, and beauty; and a man brings safety, protection, and security. Both are necessary, both are needed, and both are two different roles that make up both pieces of the puzzle.
To flourish is to blossom. To blossom includes confidence. A man with confidence is attractive, a woman with confidence is attractive. Two people whole and secure in themselves coming together to be better together. A good woman makes her man the best version of himself and a good man makes his woman the best version of herself; simply by both of them being whole and thriving already as individuals, so when they come together; they thrive together.
I have this book called “The Secret Diary of Elisabeth Leseur: The Woman Whose Goodness Changed Her Husband From Atheist To Priest”
“This inspiring book gives you a splendid example of how to live as a Christian in a secular environment that can be indifferent or hostile to your faith. For Elisabeth Leseur had two great loves: God and her husband Felix, who was an atheist. Felix loved Elisabeth as well; yet to their mutual sorrow, he couldn’t share the life of the Spirit that Elisabeth cherished. Occasionally the happiness of their life together in upper-class Parisian society was shattered by Felix’s frustration and impatience. How could such an intelligent woman waste her time, as he saw it, with ignorant superstitions? Sometimes he and his friends would even ridicule and mock her faith.
But Elisabeth loved Felix too much to allow their home to degenerate into an emotional war zone. She realized that confrontations and arguments were useless; she chose instead to keep quiet and pray for Felix. In her secret diary, she recorded how she used his efforts to destroy her faith as a means to grow in love for him and God. Throughout their life together, it grieved Elisabeth to think that Felix might be separated from her for all eternity because he rejects God. For her, life in Heaven wouldn’t be happy without him. Yet when she died prematurely, Felix was still an unbeliever. The story doesn’t end there. When Felix found this diary, he discovered how Elisabeth’s whole life bore witness to the truth of the God she loved. In time, Felix was transformed by the diary and his memories of Elisabeth. He became a Christian and, later, a priest.” - Book Description of “The Secret Diary of Elisabeth Leseur: The Woman Whose Goodness Changed Her Husband From Atheist To Priest” on Amazon
Elisabeth’s feminine virtue, inspired her husband. She didn’t nag him, she didn’t argue with him, she kept quiet and she prayed for him. Not only did she pray but she wrote, and once she died her husband discovered and read her writings, and was so overcome by her goodness that he not only converted, but he later became a priest. See, this is what being a virtuous woman is, and this demonstrates the importance of thriving in your femininity. By your good example, not only do others become better, but they find God.
In this case, Elisabeth’s husband wasn’t thriving in his true masculinity and didn’t provide Elisabeth with proper leadership as a man of God. While this example displays the testament to the power of being a good woman; there’s also a lot to be said about the testament to the power of being a good man. A good man provides the foundation for his woman to flourish.
As a woman, you want a man who makes you feel so feminine, that you can’t help but glow in your femininity when you’re with him. His love gives you the foundation you need to shine. A woman cannot flourish if she doesn’t feel safe and secure, and isn’t given the proper foundation she needs to excel in her womanhood. Many women today don’t have the space to flourish, because they have adopted masculine traits due to operating in self-survival mode; so guards come up, and feminine virtue goes down. But, that’s a topic for another time.
To conclude, I’ll say that just as a woman flourishes under the leadership of The Lord; (surrender to Jesus= peace and contentment = ability to let go of worries and thrive please pray the “Surrender Novena”) so too does a woman desire to flourish under the leadership of her man. So ladies, when you're rambling to God about what your heart desires in a man, or if you’re already married and praying for certain virtues to come forth in your husband; jot this one down: “May his masculinity allow me to thrive and flourish in my femininity.”
